This is a view of our backyard from the house. It's kind of hard to see, but the majority of it is water. We have a pond about 100' x 40' around and roughly 8 ft deep. There is a hole in the center of our pond because in the summer there is a fountain out there. This fountain now acts as a spring, keeping that spot open. Since living here we have had a wide variety of wildlife, we had geese and ducks last summer and last fall we added a muskrat to the list of animals in our wildlife reserve. I had to Google muskrat on the computer to make sure that, that is what he was for sure. We haven't seen him close enough until today! Muskrats typically hibernate for the winter. Something apparently disturbed his long winter slumber. A pretty cold day for a swim in Wisconsin, it was -13 this morning and it peaked at 17 above, the cold didn't seem to bother him. He looked like he was basking in the warm sun. The boys love all of the wildlife in their back yard! Tate nicknamed the muskrat "little guy." This afternoon they couldn't wait to tell Daddy what was in the pond! This summer we hope to add some fish. Also, get a deer feeder out! This shall add even more excitement to our little habitat. We will keep you posted!
